UMHC Get With the Guidelines Awards
< July 6, 2009 > — Today the American Heart Association presented University of Mississippi Health Care with its gold award in the “Get with the Guideline” competition in coronary artery disease and the silver award in the heart failure category. These awards recognize UMHC’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of cardiac care that effectively improves treatment of patients hospitalized with coronary artery disease and heart failure. As a result of this recognition, UMHC will be in the July issue of U.S. News and World Report as part of its annual “Best Hospitals in America” edition. This is the second consecutive year UMHC has been referenced in magazine’s Best Hospitals list.
Dr. Dan Jones named Ole Miss Chancellor
Dr. Daniel W. Jones, vice chancellor for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, today was named the 16th chief executive officer of Ole Miss by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning.
Announced after a series of meetings with faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members, the appointment is effective July 1. Read the entire press release here.
Interim Leaders Named
Dr. James Keeton, the vice chancellor’s chief of staff, has assumed responsibilities as interim vice chancellor for health affairs, and Dr. LouAnn Woodward, the medical school’s associate dean for academic affairs, has assumed responsibilities as interim dean, school of medicine effective July 1, 2009. Additionally, Dr. Dan Jones has appointed a search committee to perform a national search for the next vice chancellor for health affairs and dean, school of medicine. Dr. Jones has charged the search committee to work with a national search firm to identify the best possible candidates for the position. From the potential candidates, the committee will send forward to Jones for consideration the unranked names of at least three suitable candidates.
